Prescriptions and labs

Where are prescriptions sent?

To the pharmacy you choose. Tell us the name and location at your visit.

Can I get refills between visits?

Established patients can request refills through the Tebra patient portal. Some medications require a visit before they can be refilled.

Do you prescribe controlled substances?

Only when clinically appropriate and in line with Texas and federal rules. Some situations require an in-person evaluation. Schedule II medications, such as ADHD stimulants and opioid pain medications, are not prescribed at this practice under Texas law. Visits where you need a controlled substance are $175.

Does Dorothy work with a physician?

Yes. Texas requires nurse practitioners to prescribe under a prescriptive authority agreement with a licensed physician, and Dorothy has one in place. She sees every patient herself, and the physician is available for consultation as the agreement requires. How Texas regulates nurse practitioner practice is explained on its own page.

Where do I get lab work done?

Labs are ordered through LabCorp. Go to any LabCorp location; your insurance is billed there, or you can choose their self-pay rate.

How do I get my results?

Results are reviewed with you at a follow-up visit or by portal message, with an explanation of what they mean.
